Personalizing Your Experience: User Settings

OpenEMR allows you to customize various settings to match your personal workflow and preferences. A few minutes of personalization can make your daily tasks much more efficient. This guide will walk you through the most common settings users like to change.

Accessing User Settings

  1. Click on your user icon in the top right corner of the screen.

  2. From the dropdown menu, select Settings. This will open the user settings panel.

Common Personalization Options

Inside the Settings panel, you will see several tabs on the left. Let's walk through a few of the most popular customizations.

Example 1: Changing Your Theme

You can change the color scheme of OpenEMR to one that you find easier to view.

  1. In the Settings panel, make sure you are on the Appearance tab.

  2. Locate the Theme dropdown menu.

  3. Select a new theme from the list, such as "Forest Green" or "Dark".

  4. Click Save to apply the new theme. The interface will update to show the new look.

  5. To return to the original look, you can select the default "Light" theme and save again.

Example 2: Changing Date and Time Format

By default, OpenEMR uses a YYYY-MM-DD date format and a 24hr time format. You can adjust these to your preference.

  1. Click on the Locale tab on the left.

  2. Find the Date Display Format setting and select your preferred format, such as MM/DD/YYYY.

  3. Find the Time Display Format setting and choose 12hr.

  4. Click Save to apply your changes.

  5. Log out and log back in to see your changes reflected throughout the system.

Example 3: Setting Your Default Calendar View

By default, the calendar opens in the Day view. You can set it to always open to your preferred view.

  1. Click on the Calendar tab.

  2. Find the Default View setting.

  3. Choose your preferred view from the dropdown menu, such as Week or Month.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Log out and log back in. Now, every time you navigate to the calendar, it will open in this view.
