Streamlining Patient Flow
To manage your clinic efficiently, it's crucial for all staff members to know the real-time status of each patient's visit. OpenEMR's Flow Board is a visual tool that provides an at-a-glance overview of where every patient is in the process, from check-in to check-out.
What is the Flow Board?
The Flow Board is a digital dashboard that tracks the status of all scheduled appointments for the day. It helps improve communication between the front desk, clinical staff, and providers, ensuring a smooth and timely patient experience.
Accessing the Flow Board
You can access the Flow Board at any time by clicking on Flow in the main navigation menu at the top of the screen.
How it Works: Updating Patient Status
The Flow Board is updated automatically when a user changes an appointment's status from the calendar.
-
Navigate to the Calendar: From the main calendar view, find the patient's appointment.
-
Open the Edit Window: Click on the appointment time to open the "Edit Event" window.
-
Update the Status: Find the Status dropdown menu. By default, it is set to "None." Change it to the patient's current status, such as:
-
Arrived -
In Room -
With Doctor -
Checked Out
-
-
Save the Change: Click the Save button.
-
View the Flow Board: Now, navigate to the Flow tab. You will see the patient's appointment has appeared in the column corresponding to the status you just selected.
As the patient moves through their visit, different staff members can continue to update the status from the calendar. The patient's card on the Flow Board will automatically move to the correct column, keeping the entire team informed.
